1 - added routines to read unsigned 16-bit numbers
...
2 - cleanup of writing of ABS block, was in error for wordsize>4.
3 - strings are now padded up to a multiple of the wordsize.
4 - the padding algorithm for alignment was in error for wordsize>2.
